Who Is the Blue Sparrow

Well in short I am Beth Sims;

A Wife, a Mother of a crazy yet imaginative 4 year old, a Hair Artist of 14 years, and now I am excited to announce I have taken on a new role as a small business owner! I love all things nerdy, bold and self expressive. I grew up in a small town in Southern Alberta, my mother used to take me one town over to what she classified “The Good Hairdresser”. Even at a young age (not far off from my daughter's age) I remember looking forward to the days we would go to that salon, and I saw the impact each service provider had on the person they had in their chair. I knew something powerful was happening, I just didn't know what it was yet.

I started working at the age of 15 in a retail setting, then after graduating school I moved into more corporate opportunities, I was doing well with whatever came my way for work, but I gained no joy from it. I wanted more and I wanted to have an impact on people's lives. At this point like so many others I myself was struggling (and I still do) with poor self worth and a negative self image. What I found helped me to change my negative thoughts was to alter my outward appearance, changing what I wanted my reflection to be on the outside and how others saw me. I loved creating these new looks within coloring my own hair, I found I was gaining empowerment from it. I remember one night in my early 20’s I actually asked out loud for the universe to give me a sign as to where I needed to be. I felt prompted to give out 2 resumes at that point. One to a local car dealership for an apprentice mechanic job posting, and the other to a salon in Edmonton that I had been a Hair Model for. I knew in my heart that whichever phone call I received first, that would be my new path. Flash forward 14 years, I can honestly say I love the work that I do and how grateful I am to belong to this industry. I still have a love of cars but I think we can all agree, that was not my calling nor my path! I have now achieved many Awards/Certifications, and alongside this I have travelled to different locations such as Toronto Ontario, Las Vegas Nevada and Paris France for additional exposure and advanced education. The most recent addition to my portfolio was completing a Masters Certification in Royal Igora Hair Color (through the Professional Color line of Schwarzkopf) which I currently use as my choice of color to date.
